Rafael Ortega (32), who was rumored to be headed to Hanwha, has been released by Texas.
“Ortega has been released from the Texas Rangers,” MLB Trader’s announced on Aug. 8 (KST). Ortega is a right-handed hitting outfielder from Venezuela.
Ortega bounced around the minor leagues this season. He signed with the New York Yankees prior to the season and participated in spring training,메이저놀이터 but did not make the opening day roster. He then signed with Texas and played 44 games at Triple-A Round Rock, batting .226 with a .333 on-base percentage and .381 slugging percentage. He hit five home runs.
Ortega previously played for Colorado in 2012, the Los Angeles Angels in 2016 and Miami in 2018. In six seasons in the majors, Ortega has played 364 games, batting .250 with a .322 on-base percentage and .361 slugging percentage. The left-handed hitter was even stronger against right-handed pitching, batting .260 with a .329 on-base percentage and .385 slugging percentage.
Ortega has recently been following Hanwha’s official Instagram account and has emerged as a candidate to replace the team’s struggling foreign hitter Brian O’Grady.
As a free agent, Ortega can go to any team in the big leagues. It will be interesting to see if Ortega decides to sign with Hanwha, as rumored, or try his luck elsewhere in the big leagues.
