Australian Open champion Sabalenka reaches French Open singles second round

Arina Savalenka (No. 2-Belarus) has advanced to the second round of the women’s singles at the French Open (€49.6 million-US$70.6 million), the second major tennis tournament of the season.

Sabalenka defeated 39th-ranked Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) 2-0 (6-3 6-2) in the first round of women’s singles on the first day of competition at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, on Monday.

The second-seeded Sabalenka won her first major singles title this year at the Australian Open.

At the French Open, a clay-court 먹튀검증 event, she was uncharacteristically weak, reaching the third round (round of 32). At Wimbledon, a grass-court major, she reached the quarterfinals in 2021.

Savalenka broke her own service game at 2-2 in the first set, but then broke her opponent’s next game to level the score at 3-3 and won the next three games in a row.

In the second set, she took control of the match by taking the first six games from 2-3 in the first set to make it 2-0.

Kostyuk, a Ukrainian national, did not shake hands before or after the match with Russia, which invaded her country, or with players from Belarus, a country with which Russia has an alliance.

Sabalenka will play the winner of the Panna Udvardi (No. 97-Hungary)-Irina Simanovich (No. 214-Belarus) match in the second round for a spot in the third round.
