All cash instead of FA ‘big fish’ compensation players, why?
The KBL free agency (FA) market has seen some big moves for the ‘big fish’. However, contrary to expectations, there were no compensatory player transfers.
KGC Ginseng’s Moon Sung-gon and Oh Se-geun moved to KT and SK, respectively, KT’s Yang Hong-seok to LG, SK’s Choi Jun-yong to KCC ,메이저사이트 and Gasworks’ Jung Hyo-geun to KGC Ginseng. All of these players were among the top 30 free agents in the previous season’s salary rankings, and according to the KBL FA rules, the original team can choose either one compensated player and 50% of the salary of the signed free agent or 200% of the salary of the signed free agent.
With so many big-name players leaving the league, it was expected that the compensatory player signings would be fierce, but there were no compensatory player chains. KCC paid 1.1 billion won, 200% of Choi Jun-yong’s salary of 550 million won, to SK, KT paid 1 billion won, 200% of Moon Sung-gon’s salary of 500 million won, to KGC Ginseng Corporation, KGC Ginseng Corporation paid 600 million won, 200% of Jung Hyo-geun’s salary of 300 million won, to Korea Gas Corporation, and LG paid 1 billion won, 200% of Yang Hong-seok’s salary of 500 million won, to KT.
Some of the players available for compensation were really good. However, the clubs soberly assessed the market. SK analyzed players worth 1.1 billion won, KGC Ginseng worth 1 billion won and 600 million won, and LG analyzed no compensation players worth 1 billion won. In the case of SK and LG, the compensation amount was more than the amount of money that went into signing Oh Se-geun and Moon Sung-gon, respectively.
A source said, “I know that everyone thought a lot about it. I know that SK also fought over the player and cash compensation until the end. However, I think it was decided on cash compensation because the player they wanted to sign was worth 1.1 billion won.”
Insider B also said, “The clubs that invested a lot of money by signing a big FA had to reduce the risk. They can be held responsible for the investment if the free agent fails. However, it may have also been a factor that they could receive a large sum of money instead of a compensation player and be somewhat free from financial responsibility.”
