‘5 wins in 7 games and a 1.43 ERA, I can’t believe this pitcher is a substitute~’ LG’s Chan-kyu Lim continues 6-game winning streak with third no-hitter of the season
LG extended its winning streak to six games with a 7-1 victory over KIA in Gwangju on April 28 behind a complete-game shutout by starter Im Chan-kyu, a three-RBI triple by Moon Sung-joo, and a home run by Austin.
With the victory, LG went 2-1 in 메이저놀이터 the three-game series in Gwangju over the weekend and wiped the slate clean from a three-game sweep in Jamsil in late April.
LG starter Lim Chan-kyu pitched a no-hitter through the seventh inning, giving up four hits and striking out five. After taking over for Lee Min-ho, who was sidelined with an injury early in the season, Im has been a dominant presence since April 6 against Doosan, pitching his fifth straight win and third no-hitter of the season in his first seven starts.
In those seven starts, he allowed six runs (six earned) in 37⅔ innings for a 1.43 ERA, and in May, he solidified himself as an untouchable starter with four straight wins with a 1.13 ERA in 24 innings over four games.
KIA suffered their third straight loss and fifth of the month (3-3) as starter Shawn Anderson fell victim to a series of infield errors, allowing six runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings. To top it all off, Anderson was in ace mode in April with three straight wins after two losses, but his ERA soared to 7.71 in May, including a nine-run outing against the Hanwha Eagles on April 23 that lasted less than five innings.
On that day, LG had eight hits and three errors, while KIA also had eight hits and four errors.
However, LG was able to hold on for a no-hitter despite the errors, while KIA had to endure their second straight losing series as each error led to an unearned run.
LG’s outfielder Austin hit a solo home run (his sixth of the season) in the third inning, and Moon Sung-joo capped a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a bases-loaded walk-off triple down the right field line from reliever Kim Jae-yoo.
Kia was held scoreless in the bottom of the ninth inning when Lee Woo-sung hit his third home run of the season, narrowly avoiding a shutout as LG’s eight hits were stranded.
